Flaming Gorge Reservoir
Contest Goal: Lake trout are game fish and a valued component of the Flaming Gorge fishery. Currently there is an overabundance of lake trout less than 25”. This contest is designed to encourage people to fish for and harvest small lake trout. Harvesting small lake trout will improve the trout and Kokanee fishing by reducing predation on these species, especially Kokanee. It will also improve the trophy fishery by increasing the number of Kokanee that are available to the remaining lake trout.

Participants must be present at the closing ceremonies to win all prizes.
Heaviest Average Team Weight – “Pup” Lake Trout
• The heaviest average team weight of Lake Trout, less than 25 inches, will win. Average team weight equals the total weight of Lake Trout entered during the derby divided by the number of members on that team. For example, a four-person team enters 108 pounds on Saturday and 116 pounds on Sunday
equaling a total weight of 224 pounds. Their average team weight would be 56 pounds
• Per WGFD fishing regulation, each team member may contribute up to one creel limit of Lake Trout per day (12 Lake Trout less than 25 inches), not to exceed 24 Lake Trout (possession limit) after the first day.
• If two or more teams have the same average team weight, the tie breaker will be the first team to enter their fish on Sunday.
• Prize money will be contingent on entries, minus no more than 10% for derby expenses (e.g. insurance, permit fees, advertising, etc.). Remaining entry fees will be redistributed as prizes, therefore the more anglers that enter the derby, the bigger the prize payouts.
• Contestants are reminded that lake trout are a game fish and are great table fare. Take care of them properly and enjoy eating them. It is unlawful for a person to take and leave, abandon, or allow any game fish or edible portion to intentionally or needlessly go to waste. The fine for wasting game fish is $150, plus $20 per fish after the first. The participants in this contest are expected to treat the lake trout they harvest with respect and properly care for the edible portions.
• Five places will be paid
